This blog was started on 01 Aug '06, when some ex-students (ecommerce) asked me about how to make money from blogging. So everyday, I will set aside some time from my business to consolidate and create articles.

FAQ
Will there be any loss to the visitors that click your ads?
The answer is No. Every click is payable by the providers (e.g. Google, ClickSor) which charges advertisers for a fee to place their products or services via them at your blog.
In another word, the money you receive is in fact from the advertisers and these providers are just middleman that faciliate the service.
So do I click any ads when I am visiting others' blogs?
Why not? If it is something that interests you, a recommended product or services that you find value add, just click it.
The visitors get values from the links, the bloggers get to earn some coins or dollars, the ad providers make a cut also and the advertisers get to have a new potential customer too. Everyone wins! :)

Affiliate Programs 01
Wednesday, August 16, 2006
This is only a brief introduction of the various affiliate programs commonly used by bloggers.
Do note that several of these provide both referrals or pay-per-click banners and text links. Do not have the misconceptions that visitors have to purchase or even to pay for any items listed in the advertisements when they clicked onto them. This is incorrect. For example, when a visitor sees a hyperlink and clicked it, the advertisement will bring forward to a new website. The blogger (you) will perhaps earn a few cents under those pay-per-click ads. However, if it is just a referral ads, unless the visitor purchases something (Books, PDAs etc) that you will be paid by the provider of a certain percentage.

There are many others out there and if I missed out any of the popular ones, please leave a comment for me so that I can update it here too.
One of the most popular one will have to be Google Adsense, where you the blogger can select the various banners, text links to be placed at your blog. Every clicks or installations (programs like Firefox browser, Picasa image editor and Google Toolbar) will earn you some money.
Adsense is the most commonly used program by both bloggers and webmasters too and in general it is simple enough for anyone to just open one quickly and start earning money. Unlike others, you do not have to wait for any advertisers to approach your site first then to advertise. Google do all that for you the moment you placed the codes into your blog. Hassle free.
Text Link Ads from Cincinnati, brands itself as the premier targeted traffic and link popularity ad firm. Specialize in placing static html links on high quality, high traffic web properties.
True to its words, it is not easy to be in its publisher programs as Text Link Ads only goes for those websites or blogs with high traffic else more than likely you be declined to participate at all. Personally, I see it as this company striking a balance between the publishers and the advertisers to maintain a certain level of quality, to attract more paying advertisers that may have a higher returns since their ads will only be published in high traffic sites. But on the other, if their payout is not as good, will high traffic sites be using them? I think it works both ways.
Not to give up hope just because you are a new kid on the 'blog', you can still try its 'Affiliate Program' where you can refer sales and publishers and a US$25 from each successful referral.
One thing the immediate problem that this company has to fix is to keep its servers up. Out of the many times I visited this site, 70% of the time is down. Yikes!
Clicksor offers webmasters the opportunity to earn additional income by simply underlining a selection of clickable text or displaying targeted contextual banners on their websites or blogs.
According to Paypopup, publishers or webmasters can select from a wide range of decent media such as Banner, Layer Ads, Pop-Under Advertisements to host on their websites. It claim to reward affiliate members with one of the highest payout rates in the industry on a Bi-weekly payment basis. Do try it out first to see if those advertisements aer suitable for your readers or not.
I tried it out a couple of times and it has adult theme banners splashing all over my personal blog which is a big NO NO for me. Anyway, no harm signing up since it is free but do take note ok? You dont wanna end up having something 'objective' on a family oriented blog. :)
From AdBrite, "If you're a publisher, use AdBrite to set your own ad rates, and approve or reject every ad that's purchased for your site. AdBrite enables you to instantly sell ads to your visitors via a "Your Ad Here" link, in addition to selling through AdBrite's marketplace and sales team."
Of the many affiliate programs, I find that AdBrite website is the prettiest. The placements of advertisers products and informations are clearly spelled out without the need for any 2nd guess. It is also very easy for any bloggers to play around with the amount you want to be paid for advertisers to place ads at your blog.
You must have been living under a rock if you do not know who or what Amazon.com is. :)
Other than being the world's largest online shopping mall, where you can almost get anything you want, it also provides 'Amazon Services'. Affiliate programs that members can sign up to be an amazon associates.
From the site; "The Amazon Associates program was the first online affiliate program of its kind when it launched in 1996. Today, it is among the largest and most successful online affiliate program, with over 1,000,000 members world-wide. If you are a Web site owner, Amazon seller, or Web developer, you can start earning money today and earn up to 8.5% in referral fees."
Go here for more details on how it works. In short, you can place a referral ad on your blog and anyone interested it in can click and be brought to Amazon website to find out more details and even to purchase (where you earn a certain %). Example here and here.
Note: There will be no earnings if the reader just click the ads but do not purchase any items.
To be continued, 'Affiliate Programs 02'
